How to Wash and Care for a Quick-Dry Polyester Long Sleeve

Performance apparel works hard during running, hiking, travel, and gym sessions. A consistent care routine helps preserve the garment's shape, finish, and day-to-day performance.

Always start with the garment label

Care instructions should be based on the finished garment—not only the base fabric. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission's care-label guidance explains that washing, drying, bleaching, ironing, and any necessary warnings must be considered. If your garment label differs from general advice, follow the label.

Canyra's recommended routine

Machine wash cold with like colors. Close any hook-and-loop items in the same load so they do not catch the fabric.
Use a mild detergent. Measure it according to the detergent instructions and load size.
Do not bleach.
Avoid fabric softener. It can leave residue on performance fabric.
Tumble dry low or hang dry. Remove the shirt promptly when dry.

Before washing after a workout

Do not leave a damp shirt compressed in a gym bag. Let it air out until you can wash it. Turn it inside out before washing to reduce surface abrasion, especially when the load includes zippers or rough hardware.

How often should you wash it?

Wash after a sweaty session or when the garment is visibly soiled. For low-intensity wear, use judgment based on odor, moisture, and exposure to dirt. Avoid unnecessary heat and aggressive cycles.

What not to do

Do not use bleach.
Do not use high heat unless the garment label specifically allows it.
Do not iron reflective details or cuff components directly.
Do not rely on generic polyester advice when the sewn garment's care label says otherwise.
